Recipes for Homemade Food Pouches
Homemade pouch recipes for the whole family
Simple, real-food blends you can batch-cook, fill with your Fill n Squeeze pouch maker and freeze. Each recipe fills roughly four to six 150ml pouches. Start with smooth purées for first tastes, then add texture as your little one grows.
First tastes
Single veg and simple fruit purées for around 6 months and up. Blend very smooth and add a splash of baby's usual milk or cooled boiled water to loosen.
Silky carrot
- 4 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
Method
Steam for 15–20 minutes until very soft. Blend until completely smooth, loosening with a little of the cooking water. Cool before filling.
Sweet potato
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cubed
Method
Steam or boil for about 20 minutes until tender. Blend smooth with a splash of water or baby's usual milk.
Broccoli and pea
- 1 small head broccoli, in florets
- 100g frozen peas
Method
Steam the broccoli for 8 minutes, add the peas for the last 3. Blend until smooth. Green veg early on helps little ones get used to less sweet flavours.
Gentle pear
- 3 ripe pears, peeled, cored and chopped
Method
Simmer in a splash of water for 5–8 minutes until soft, then blend. Very ripe pears can simply be mashed raw for older babies.
Fruity blends
Naturally sweet, no added sugar needed.
Apple, mango and banana
- 2 apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 ripe mango, flesh only
- 1 ripe banana
Method
Soften the apple in a little water for 6–8 minutes. Blend with the mango and banana until smooth.
Berry and pear
- 2 ripe pears, chopped
- 150g mixed berries (frozen is fine)
Method
Simmer together for 5 minutes until the berries collapse. Blend, then press through a sieve if you want it seed-free.
Peach melba
- 4 ripe peaches (or a tin in juice, drained)
- 100g raspberries
Method
Blend the peaches and raspberries until smooth and sieve out the seeds. Lovely stirred into natural yoghurt too.
Tropical sunshine
- 1 ripe mango
- 150g pineapple
- 1 small banana
Method
Blend everything until smooth. Pineapple is quite tangy, so start with a little and add more to taste.
Veggie meals
Hearty savoury blends with a little more texture. No salt or stock cubes needed for babies; herbs and mild spices add flavour.
Butternut, lentil and cumin
- ½ butternut squash, peeled and cubed
- 50g red lentils, rinsed
- Pinch of ground cumin
Method
Simmer the squash and lentils in about 300ml water for 20–25 minutes until the lentils are soft. Add the cumin, then blend to the texture you like.
Cauliflower cheese
- ½ cauliflower, in florets
- 30g mild cheddar, grated
- Splash of whole milk
Method
Steam the cauliflower for 12–15 minutes until soft. Blend with the cheese and enough milk to make a smooth sauce.
Pea, spinach and mint
- 200g frozen peas
- Handful of baby spinach
- A few mint leaves
Method
Cook the peas for 4 minutes, wilt in the spinach for the last minute, then blend with the mint and a splash of the cooking water.
Mini ratatouille
- 1 courgette, 1 red pepper, ½ aubergine, chopped
- 200g tinned chopped tomatoes
- Drizzle of olive oil, pinch of dried basil
Method
Soften the veg in the oil for 10 minutes, add the tomatoes and basil and simmer for 15 minutes. Blend smooth or leave a little texture.
Toddler and lunchbox favourites
For little ones on the go, school lunches and grown-up snacks too.
Overnight oats pouch
- 40g porridge oats
- 150ml whole milk
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- Pinch of cinnamon
Method
Stir together and leave in the fridge overnight. Blend smooth in the morning and fill. A great breakfast on the school run.
Strawberry yoghurt swirl
- 300g natural or Greek yoghurt
- 150g strawberries
Method
Blend the strawberries and stir through the yoghurt. Freeze the filled pouches for a cool after-school treat.
Tomato and red pepper soup
- 1 onion, 2 red peppers, chopped
- 400g tin chopped tomatoes
- 1 small potato, diced
Method
Soften the onion and pepper, add the tomatoes, potato and 200ml water and simmer for 20 minutes. Blend smooth. Warm before filling and check the temperature before serving.
Green smoothie
- 1 ripe banana
- Handful of spinach
- 100g mango
- 100ml milk or apple juice
Method
Blend everything until completely smooth. The fruit hides the spinach perfectly.
